If you are missing your pet, call the City Pound as soon as possible. Lost Pet Direct Line: 519-623-7405 ext 223

Lost Pets

If you are reporting a lost pet for a family member or friend, please be aware of the questions that will be asked to fill out the lost report; the owner of the animal may be required to call in if you do not have all the animals' information.

Some questions asked:
Where the pet went missing – how long the pet has been missing – if the animal is spayed/neutered, microchipped, tattooed – description of the pet – what collars/tags the pet may have been wearing – owner information – can a photo of the lost pet be provided

You can also:

  • Visit www.helpinglostpets.com to post an online lost report in a province wide database.
  • Put posters up in your neighbourhood (by-laws permitting).
  • Contact the veterinarian who issued the rabies tag; they may have received a call from someone who has found your pet.
  • If microchipped, contact the microchip company to notify them of your missing pet.

Flamborough & Sheffield: 905-981-8188
Brant County: 519-756-6620

Most Importantly, don't give up. Some pets do return home on their own after quite some time. Keep your eyes and ears open to scratching on your front or back door. If you live in a busy neighbourhood and your pet is roaming the streets, it is most likely that (s)he is hiding during the day and roaming during the night. Consequently, your lost pet may be trying to get into your home during the night or early morning hours.

Remember, pictures speak louder than words. Always include pictures when possible!

Found Pets

To have a pet that you found in the City of Cambridge picked up by Animal Services, please call the regular office line (519-623-6323) to have a driver sent out. You can also deliver the pet to the city pound at 1660 Dunbar Road, Cambridge, Ontario. If you are going to bring the animal into the Cambridge City Pound, we require current/valid photo identification.

If you are looking to hold onto the pet until an owner can be located, we still required you to bring the animal into the pound to have a photo taken of the animal, check for a microchip and record the animals' details. A found report will be filled out with the pets' information (details and location found) and your information (as the finder) in case an owner calls or comes into the pound.

Additional ways to help reunite lost pets with their families:

  • Click here to post your found pet on the "Lost & Found" page on the Cambridge & District Humane Society website.
  • If the pet has been found in another city or township please contact the animal pound or shelter for that area.
  • Visit www.helpinglostpets.com to post an online lost report in a province wide database.

Chances of successfully reuniting a lost pet with its family are substantially improved when that pet is implanted with a microchip device. Please see your veterinarian to have your pet microchipped today.
