Upon application, senior citizens, the blind and disabled persons shall be allowed a 50% reduction on the above licence fees, excluding Kennel Licences, Late Fees and Replacement Tags. A Veterinarian's Certificate must be produced for the reduced rate for neutered/spayed dogs.
NOTE: To qualify for the regular fee, payments must be received or postmarked no later than December 31.
Dog Licensing and Registration
By-law 65-08 section 2.1: states that "every owner of a dog residing within the City shall cause the dog to be registered and licensed annually on or before the 31st day of December in the previous year OR within thirty (30) days of becoming an owner of a dog."
By-law 65-08 section 2.2: states that "upon application for a licence the owner of a dog shall be required to produce a certificate signed by a practising veterinarian that the dog das been inoculated with an anti-rabies vaccine within a period of twenty-four (24) months prior to the date of application for a licence."
Licences are valid from January 01 to December 31 of each year. Renewal licences purchased from October 01 to December 31 are exempt from paying the late fee. New licences purchased within one month of owning or on month of moving to the City.
Dog tags are non-transferable and non-refundable.
Dogs Running at Large
The By-law also states that every owner of a dog, who fails to have it licenced or allows it to run at large, shall upon conviction, forfeit and pay a penalty not exceeding fifty dollars exclusive of costs for each such offence.
Online tag purchases
At this time only renewals are available on line. Tags for new dogs must be purchased at the pound at 1660 Dunbar.
